Former Australian cricket captain Michael Clarke has expressed worry about the decision to not include former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim in the national team.
Michael Clarke was included in the commentary panel for PSL9 matches.
Clarke believes that Wasim’s skills and experience could be valuable assets to the Pakistan team in the T20 World Cup 2024. Imad Wasim is known for his abilities both as a bowler and a batsman, and his absence might be seen as a missed opportunity to strengthen Pakistan’s cricket team. Clarke’s concerns highlight the importance of having talented and experienced players like Wasim in competitive cricket tournaments.
During the knockout stage of the ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Imad Wasim performed exceptionally well for Islamabad United, earning consecutive Player of the Match awards.
However, it’s worth mentioning that on November 24th, 2023, the veteran all-rounder officially announced his retirement from international cricket. This decision marked the end of his career playing for his country at the highest level. Wasim likely made this choice after considering various factors, including personal reasons and plans.
Clarke said while commenting that,
“Imad is my MVP for the finals. If he is not playing for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, there is something seriously wrong.”
Also after taking retirement, Imad Wasim shows his desire to play for his country again.
He said while interviewing a local media,
“I made a name for myself while playing for Pakistan and if my country needs me, I will be available. If not, I have no issues with that.”
“Shaheen called me after I retired but I told him that we will talk after PSL,” he also added.
Pakistan has to play T20 World Cup in June this year in West Indies and America. Imad Wasim has good experience playing in the West Indies as he played many times in CPL.
So Pakistan Cricket Board management may talk to him about taking back his retirement and include him in the 15-member squad for the World Cup.
